Hamilton Soccer is committed to the training, development, and support of Match Officials by providing an environment that allows referees to maximize their potential and progress through the officiating pathway.
Our Match Official Program provides opportunities for young officials and experienced referees to develop their skills while supporting the game at all levels within Hamilton Soccer.
Referee Development Pathway
Hamilton Soccer offers three levels of officiating:
Game Leader (U8-U9)
The Game Leader Program serves as an introduction to officiating and focuses on learning, player development, and enjoyment of the game.
Responsibilities include:
Minimum age requirement: 12 years old.
Small-Sided Match Official (U10-U11)
Small-Sided Match Officials oversee games played under modified rules designed to promote player development.
Responsibilities include:
Minimum age requirement: 12 years old.
Entry Level Referee (U12+)
Entry Level Referees officiate games played under FIFA Laws of the Game and Ontario Soccer regulations.
Responsibilities include:
Minimum age requirement: 14 years old.
Career Advancement
Hamilton Soccer encourages Match Officials to pursue advancement opportunities through Ontario Soccer and Canada Soccer.
Officials may progress through:
Mentorship Program
Hamilton Soccer supports referee development through mentorship and evaluation programs. Experienced Match Officials provide guidance, feedback, and support to developing referees throughout the season.
